Piarco, 06 March 2015 -Yesterday, a winter storm significantly impacted air travel in the US Northeast. The system rendered runway conditions in the New York area slippery and challenging for landings. In fact; at 11:07 a.m. yesterday, a Delta Airlines MD 80 skidded off the runway at New York's LaGuardia airport – closing this busy facility for a number of hours.

PIARCO, FEBRUARY 12, 2015 – Throughout the Carnival season, Caribbean Airlines will operate over 250 International flights carrying more than 28, 000 passengers into Port of Spain. Extra capacity was added on key routes such as New York and Jamaica into Port of Spain, Trinidad. Most inbound flights over the carnival weekend, until Sunday 15 February, are at 100% load factor.

With increased customer loads, due in part to being the first airline in the world to rescind the fuel surcharge, Caribbean Airlines is pleased to announce a revised schedule that will be implemented from Jan 15, 2015 through to Feb 4, 2015. In addition to increased capacity and more non-stops, Caribbean Airlines is also expecting major cost savings from a more efficient schedule that will see better utilization of its 737 and 767 fleets. Many of the changes will focus on its Port of Spain hub at Piarco Airport, where improved connection times will make it easier for our guests to connect to/from various points in our network.

The holidays get even merrier as Caribbean Airlines celebrates the 12 days of Christmas by surprising 23 passengers with the gift of travel. From December 22 to December 25, 2014 and January 1 to 3, 2015, one passenger on each of 25 randomly selected flights will receive a ticket to a Caribbean Airlines destination of his/her choice. On January 4, the surprise is supersized with three passengers being gifted with four tickets each to any Caribbean Airlines destination.

Despite the growing industry trend of airlines moving to charge passengers for all checked bags, Caribbean Airlines announces its new baggage policy of charging its customers for their 2nd checked bag. The first checked bag continues to be free – together with one carry-on bag – while a fee for the 2nd bag will be only 25 USD, plus applicable taxes. Caribbean Airlines also announces an improvement in its International baggage policy for Business Class customers whose free checked baggage allotment will be increased to three pieces.

Perhaps more than any other time of the year, Christmas is for children, and the season for giving. Caribbean Airlines staff recently brought some welcome holiday cheer to children being treated at the JBF Paediatric Specialty Unit, Wendy Fitzwilliam Paediatric Hospital, Mount Hope. In partnership with the Just Because Foundation, a paediatric cancer support organisation, the Caribbean Airlines “Wings of Love” staff group spent time with the children and presented them with holiday gifts. “We were so inspired by the grace of the kids. No one wants to be sick but they showed us how to be thankful and optimistic especially when it’s tough to do so. They are all truly remarkable,” said Alicia Cabrera, Senior Marketing Manager, Caribbean Airlines.

Caribbean Airlines is pleased to announce the immediate removal of fuel surcharges on all routes between North America and the Caribbean, and within the Caribbean. Mr. George Reeleder, Vice President of Commercial and Customer Service said, “This is great news for Caribbean Airlines customers. With the reduction in jet fuel prices we have removed the surcharges as they were only ever planned to be of temporary nature.” The fuel surcharge was introduced to cover additional costs when the price of fuel was over $100 per barrel. We never wanted this surcharge to be a permanent feature of our fares. Thus, when our largest expense – fuel, came down, we wanted our customers to benefit.
