Global Deaf Connections
As part of its commitment to the betterment of the communities within which we operate, Caribbean Airlines was a sponsor of the Global Deaf Connection’s second mission to Antigua for a three-day session to make ear moulds for persons who may be deaf or hard of hearing. Led by Programme Director Joel Runnels, Global Deaf Connection is a US -based international organisation that works with people from different nations who are deaf and have difficulty hearing, to open access to services for them. Mr. Runnels indicated that two to three per cent of the population of Antigua & Barbuda may be afflicted with some degree of hearing loss, and his organization has partnered with the Antiguan Ministry of Health to donate new, free hearing aids, provided by their implementation partners Starkey Hearing Foundation. On this mission which ran from 17—20 November, the medical teams were able to collect almost 100 additional pairs of ear mold impressions, which will result in donations of hearing aids to 200 hearing impaired persons in Antigua on 07 December 2010.

On 20 November, Antigua/Barbuda Minister of Health, Honourable Wilmoth Daniel and Vice President of American University of Antigua (AUA) Medical College, Dr. Majid Pathan (pictured in third photo above) paid a courtesy call on Programme Director Joel Runnels at the medical centre where the teams met with the hearing impaired. Caribbean Airlines began its support of the Global Deaf Connection in 2009 and looks forward to a rewarding relationship with the organization in its quest to bring the gift of hearing to persons across the globe.
