Packing Advice

(International and Domestic Travel)

Check-In Times

Prior to your flight departure we recommend you: -

  1. Reconfirm your flight departure. You will need to provide us with a contact number for the various destinations on your itinerary.
  2. Check-in within the recommended time before your departure. For our International services 3 hours is required for check-in and a check-in time of 4 hours is required at Heathrow.
  3. If you hold an e-ticket for travel on Caribbean Airlines we encourage you to save time spent in airport queues and check-in via www.caribbean-airlines.com/webcheck-in.html. You can web check-in within 24 hours and up to 4 hours prior to your scheduled flight departure time. If you are travelling on our code share service with British Airways and you wish to check-in using the Kiosk at Gatwick, you may use your BA reference number to do so, or your EU machine readable passport.

Carry-On Baggage

Your carry-on baggage piece must not exceed 47 inches (L+B+H) in total dimensions and 7 kilos or 16 lbs in weight. In addition to your carry-on baggage, you may carry one of the following items without any additional charge. Your carry-on must be able to fit under your seat or in the overhead compartment, if not then the item will need to be checked-in.

  • Handbags, pocket books or purses are required to be appropriate to normal travelling wear in terms of size. . This may not be used as a container to transport articles, which would otherwise be regarded as baggage
  • Overcoats, wraps or blankets
  • An umbrella or walking stick
  • A small camera and/or pair of binoculars
  • A reasonable amount of reading material for the flight
  • Infants' food for consumption in-flight
  • A fully collapsible wheelchair and/or pair of crutches and/or other prosthetic device for the passenger's use provided that the passenger is dependent upon them. Subject to the availability of space, this item may be checked or carried in the passenger's cabin.
  • Your duty free allowance

Transportation Security Administration (TSA) advises a 3–1–1 guidelines for carry-ons = 3 ounce bottle or less; 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag; 1 bag per passenger placed in screening bin. One-quart bag per person limits the total liquid volume each traveller can bring. 3 oz. container size is a security measure. We suggest you visit the TSA website www.tsatraveltips.gov for more information.

Securing Your Baggage

When you present your bags at check-in please ensure:-

  1. Your baggage is securely closed and if possible locked. Passengers travelling from the USA are asked not to lock their checked bags as the United States Transport Security Administration (TSA) will be screening all checked baggage leaving US ports. Should your baggage be examined, the TSA will insert a written advice informing you that your baggage was opened for inspection. This advice will also include a toll free number and website to contact the TSA for further information or claims. Passengers are advised to secure all valuables, personal documents and medication in their carry-on baggage to avoid any inconvenience.
  2. Loose straps or other items are not hanging from the bag as they may get caught in the baggage system and cause further damage.
  3. Remove all old baggage tags and old name labels as this may delay the delivery of your baggage to your final destination.
  4. Label each bag with your full name and destination address and affix to the outside of each baggage.
  5. Carry camera equipment, electronic equipment, cash, jewellery and other similar valuable items, as well as medication and prescriptions, with you on board the aircraft. Do not pack these items in your checked baggage.
  6. Prohibited items in your carry-on baggage include; darts, toys or replica guns, plastic or metal catapults, household cutlery knives with blades of any length, paper knives, razor blades, straight razors, tradesman’s tools, scissors, ice picks, manicure sets, hypodermic syringes (unless medically required, must have a Doctor's note), knitting needles, sporting bats, billiard, snooker or pool cues, any other cutting instrument of any size, made from any material. The term "cutting instruments" includes every kind of cutting instrument, including carpet knives, box cutters, and other folding or retractable blades, regardless of blade length or composition, even those less than four inches, whether metallic or non-metallic.
  7. If you are travelling with any form of household goods, chemical cylinders, medical supplies, pharmaceuticals, laboratory testing equipment, fuels, concentration, personal effects such as aerosols, please view our guidelines on dangerous goods, as failure to properly identify and tender transportation may be subject to legal penalties and a prison sentence.
  8. Do not carry unidentified items on behalf of other passengers.
  9. Caribbean Airlines assumes no liability for fragile, perishable or valuable articles, including camera equipment, cash and jewellery, or for damage such as scratches, dents, cuts to wheels, or damage due to over-packing and manufacturer's defects. Customers are advised against packing mediation and dangerous goods in their baggage.
