Firearms and Munitions of War
Firearms form part of your free checked baggage allowance. If the weight is in excess of your checked baggage allowance, the normal excess baggage rates will be charged. Sporting guns may be accepted for transportation as checked baggage, provided they are unloaded, dismantled and enclosed in a case. This type of gun must be carried in the part of the aircraft not accessible to passengers.
Munitions of War are any weapon, ammunition or article containing an explosive or any noxious liquid gas or anything which is designed or made for use in warfare or against persons, including parts, whether components or accessories for such weapons, ammunition or article.
Passengers authorised to travel with firearms
- Authorised firearm users requiring travel with firearms and ammunition between the islands of Trinidad and Tobago only.
- Security escorts of the President, Prime Ministers and other top government officials who are entitled to travel with firearms and those on Government authorized business.
- Passengers transporting firearms and ammunition associated with sporting or hunting events.
Other passengers who need to transport firearms and ammunitions onboard Caribbean Airlines aircraft are to contact the Caribbean Airlines Cargo division.
What documentation do I need to complete?
We will require you to complete a Munitions of War Acceptance Form that is available at the time of check-in. You will need to contact your nearest customs office and inquire whether you require an import or export license. All documentation is the responsibility of the passenger.
At check-in time, once authorised, you must surrender your firearm(s) and make a written declaration on the acceptance form for Munitions of War on board our aircraft to clarify the firearms have been surrendered and are safe for transportation.
Can it be checked in as hand luggage?
Guns and ammunition cannot form part of your carry-on luggage.
Sidearm/firearms can only form part of checked luggage when they have been unloaded, suitably packed and when checked for carriage in baggage or other compartment of the aircraft not accessible to the passenger.
Carrying Cases/containers for firearms and ammuniation must be provided by the customer and must be of a type and make, that is approved by authorised Firearms and Munitions of War dealers.
Ammunition: cartridges (1.4s) for use with the sporting guns may be carried on Caribbean Airlines aircraft provided they are properly packed in a safety container of wood, metal or fiberboard with the contents protected against shock or movement. The weight of the contents of each container must not exceed 5 kgs.
The following are considered weapons/dangerous articles and are not to be allowed in the cabin of any Caribbean Airlines aircraft: FIREARM, KNIVES, BLUDGEONS, EXPOLSIVES/ AMMUNITION, EXPLOSIVES/INCENDIARIES, GASES & CHEMICAL AGENTS AND OTHER DANGEROUS ARTICLES.
