The Company met with the Executive Body of JALPA as well as the Pilot Body on 19 April 2012, to advise of its intention to offer contracts of employment with Caribbean Airlines Limited to the pilots based in Kingston, Jamaica.  This course of action is as a result of the closure of CARIBAL Limited, a subsidiary of CaribbeanAirlines. CARIBAL is the current employer of the Pilots based in Jamaica.

Employees based in Jamaica with the exception of the pilot body currently hold Caribbean Airlines contracts and we are in the process of regularizing our operations.

As a demonstration of transparency, the employment of the pilots to Caribbean Airlines will see the Company using a smooth and seamless transition process.  Pilots have been asked to indicate, an expression of interest for employment, with the Company and the Company has agreed that where such interest is equivalent to, or less than the available positions, a formal interview process will not be required. It was also indicated that the number of available positions was preliminary based on the Company’s operating schedule.

The matter of representational rights for those pilots based in Jamaica who were directly employed to Caribbean Airlines was brought to the table by JALPA in 2011.  The Company’s response confirmed that representational rights for pilots employed to Caribbean Airlines were held by TTALPA. There was no dialogue on the matter of jurisdiction. Further dialogue between the Company and JALPA are due to continue.

In reference to media reports of “dropping of the Air Jamaica name”, Caribbean Airlines received a directive from the regulatory authorities that announcements must refer to the Air Operating Carrier.
