The Faces of Caribbean Airlines finale was held on Thursday 10 September at the Carlton Savannah with 30 participants being named as brand ambassadors at the event. Screenings were held in New York, Miami and Jamaica which resulted in 60 finalists being chosen for the exclusive online show that took place at RISE. With over 950 contestants to choose from, the online brand ambassador search received almost 200 000 hits on its website www.facesofcaribbeanairlines.com, which resulted in more than 1.5 million page views and about 85 000 new visitors to the site in just two months.
At the event, the winners were judged on their personality and knowledge of the airline and its destinations. The judges and voting public had the opportunity to vote during the event, and selected 20 girls and 10 guys to be known as the “FACES” of Caribbean Airlines. The 30 “Faces” took part in publicity photos following the announcement of the winners. Mikhail Baynes received 3755 online votes on the night to be judged most popular brand ambassador and was presented with a prize of 1000TTD of units from UTC Executive Director Mr. Marlon Holder. CEO of Caribbean Airlines, Mr. Philip Saunders noted in his closing address that the airline was confident that social media continues to play a large role in the marketing strategies of many companies. Mr. Saunders indicated that the search had the potential to become an annual event for the airline.
Eleven participants came to Trinidad especially for the event from the US, Canada, Barbados and Jamaica. The internet played a large part at the “Faces” finale. Guests viewing the event live on the internet were encouraged everyone to log onto the website www.facesofcaribbeanairlines.com to vote for their favourite participant as the public vote accounted for 25% of the overall score.” The lucky 30 winners will be used as brand ambassadors when the airline conducts its promotional activity in its various markets. The first big event will be at Miami carnival in October. The success of the event was evident, as many other companies lent their support. The lucky 60 participants will all received UTC units worth 250TTD with FLOW providing the broadband connection to enable the live streaming of the online event. In fulfilling its social responsibilities as a corporate leader in Trinidad, the airline teamed up with Arrive Alive to promote road safety and had a signature non-alcoholic cocktail made especially for the event with voluntary breathalyzer tests for guests as they left the event.
