| Caribbean Airlines: Dedicated to environmentally friendly operations |
Caribbean Airlines is committed to operating efficiently and environmentally-friendly. We recognize that we fly in one of the most beautiful parts of the world, and we want to protect our wondrous ecosystem to keep it beautiful.
That’s why we subscribe to carbon offsetting practices. Carbon offsetting is a method that allows us and others to |
effectively reduce the generation and effect of carbon emissions which contributes to global warming.
One of our biggest projects to reduce carbon emissions is investing in wing tips for our entire Boeing 737-800 fleet. That project alone will decrease our CO2 emissions by up to 3,825 tonnes in 2008.
To offset the amount of CO2 we must produce, Caribbean Airlines looks for ways to support projects outside of our business that reduces CO2. Basically, for every one tonne of CO2 we generate, we aim to invest in a project to save an equivalent one tonne of CO2 through a project somewhere else – like planting trees or swapping kerosene in remote areas of India for ‘solar panels. One tonne offsets the other – hence the term “carbon offsetting”. Caribbean Airlines partners with The CarbonNeutral Company® in this effort. If you wish to join us in the effort to reduce the impact of carbon emissions in the environment, you can choose to offset your own share of flight emissions with just a small contribution. |
