Ian Brunton Appointed Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Arthur Lok Jack, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Caribbean Airlines Limited is pleased to announce the appointment of Captain Ian Brunton as Chief Executive Officer with effect from 15 October, 2009. He takes over from Philip Saunders, who, some six months ago, gave notice of his intention to resign his position to return to the UK. The Chairman noted that the Caribbean Airlines’ board would like to take this opportunity to thank Philip Saunders for his sterling contribution to the success of Caribbean Airlines over the past two years of his tenure and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.
Captain Brunton started his aviation career some forty-seven years ago in the British Royal Air Force. He has held senior positions in the State Safety Oversight system (he was the first Chairman of the Trinidad & Tobago Civil Aviation Authority) and in both BWIA and Caribbean Airlines. Ian has been the Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer of Caribbean Airlines since the airline's inception in January 2007. He is a qualified Attorney-at-Law, holds Bachelor and Master of Laws degrees from the University of London and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Ian is a former Board Director of BWIA and a former Chairman of the Trinidad and Tobago Airline Pilots’ Association. - Port of Spain, October 02, 2009
Caribbean Airlines begins 4 year certificate training programme.
Caribbean Airlines has inducted into its Maintenance & Engineering fraternity, through the Technical Training Department, twenty (20) local candidates who will undergo an Apprenticeship Engineering Training Programme.
On 23 September 2009 at a media launch held at the airline’s Iere House head office in Parico, the programme was official opened by Works and Transport Minister, the Honourable Colm Imbert. The programme will offer four years of classroom instruction and “on-the-job” training at the airline’s hangars and workshops to students who went through a rigorous selection process. The programme is designed and structured to give candidates certification in TTCAA AMEL. (Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Authority Aircraft Maintenance Engineering License.)
Initiated and championed by Caribbean Airlines’ Executive Vice President Operations, Capt. Ian Brunton, the programme has the potential to preserve the business community as it will produce personnel who, in less than a decade, will be able to support and certify maintenance of aircraft within Caribbean Airlines. Captain Brunton further stated that, “the skilled manpower situation in M&E has always been under continuous assessment and it was realised that due to attrition, turnover and an ageing workforce there was not sufficient qualified and skilled human resource capacity to support Caribbean Airlines’ continued fleet expansion and scope of activities, resulting from network expansion and heavy maintenance.”
Given that there was an absence of approved local engineering /aviation licensing (AMEL) training providers and programmes and the additional cost of foreign training, Caribbean Airlines possessed competitive advantage because of the airline’s geographic positioning and competitive labour costs. The idea for this programme was also made possible as Caribbean Airlines possessed the institutional experience and management capability to successfully conduct this programme. Caribbean Airlines has engaged regional resources from The Art Williams and Harry Wendt Aeronautical Engineering School (AWHWAES) in support of the vision of regionalization of aviation.

Caribbean Airlines contributes to first kidney transplant in GuyanaOn 12 July 2008, Caribbean Airlines, Ltd., aided in another first for the Caribbean –- Guyana’s first kidney transplant.
As his mother was desperately trying to raise funds to send 18-year-old Munesh Mangal to India
for kidney transplant surgery, Munesh’s situation caught the attention of Guyanese
philanthropist George Subraj. Subraj, who lives in New York City, gathered together a team to
make the operation a reality and contacted Caribbean Airlines for assistance in transporting the
American-based doctors who would be performing the landmark surgery.
Caribbean Airlines provided complimentary air transportation from New York to Guyana for
seven doctors and nurses.
“Caribbean Airlines is extremely pleased to have a part in this history-making endeavor is to
improve the life of one of our Caribbean citizens and further develop medical programmes in
the region,” said Caribbean Airlines CEO Philip Saunders. “Providing reliable, full-service air
transportation is our business but serving as a community partner is our heart.”
Caribbean Airlines, and other contributors, were honored at a special ceremony hosted by
Subraj on 14 July 2008 for their generousity. In separate ceremonies, the airline also was
recognized by the President of Guyana Bharrat Jagdeo, Speaker of the National Assembly Ralph
Ramkarran, Guyana Minister of Health Leslie Ramsammy, and Mayor of Georgetown Hamilton
Greene.
"This was a ground–breaking event and lifted our hopes for bringing more and better health
care for the Guyanese people,” said Minister Ramsammy. “We are proud that Caribbean
Airlines demonstrated a commitment to be a part of the exciting developments in the local
health sector."
Munesh Munesh was diagnosed with End Stage Renal Failure in 2007. His mother, Leelkumarie
Nirananjan Mangal, efforts to aid her son began with working tirelessly to pay for dialysis
treatment and tests, then trying to raise USD $36,000 for her son to travel to India for the
surgery, but her ultimate gift was the kidney that she donated to her only son.
After months of planning, the medical team for Guyana’s first kidney transplant performed the
milestone procedure at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation on 12 July 2008. Munesh
and his mother currently are recovering well. Guyana health official state that by observing
and assisting with this first kidney transplant operation, and after additional training, local
doctors will be able to perform the surgery without oversees assistance – a great progressive
step for regional medicine. -

Caribbean Airlines Completes In-House Maintenance on Boeing Aircraft 737 9Y-KINCaribbean Airlines is pleased to announce that is has today completed its first ‘C’ Check on one of its B737NG aircraft.
Today is a climax to several months of planning and preparation and was the first check of this magnitude undertaken by Caribbean Airlines. This Heavy Maintenance visit was initially planned for a forty-nine day duration based on experience with ‘C’ Checks accomplished by outsourced vendors. Previously outsourced to maintenance operations in the United States, the in-house ‘C’ check was completed at Caribbean Airlines’ base in Piarco, Trinidad in a record time of forty calendar days at less than 50% of previous cost as would have been incurred, had maintenance continued to be outsourced to foreign maintenance repair organisations.
This ‘C’ Check which consists of a thorough visual inspection of the general condition and security of installations and adjacent structure in designated areas of the airplane, and functional and operational checks to assure continued airworthiness of the aircraft, commenced on May 22 2008.
Internal areas of the airplane were opened as necessary, for adequate visual inspection, as part of the C check, and mandatory modifications and corrosion prevention and control inspections were also incorporated. In an effort to further enhance customer appeal; several cabin enhancements were also included.
This bold drive by Caribbean Airlines to in-source its 737 major maintenance creates a bright future for aviation in Trinidad and Tobago as well as the wider Caribbean as it is an economical venture and provides for the creation of job opportunities in this highly technical industry.

Caribbean Airlines out performs industryCaribbean Airlines announced today that in September it outperformed Industry Standards in on-time performance and luggage claims. The airline averaged a 91% on-time performance across its international network.
Caribbean Airlines maintained a perfect score of 100% of its flights leaving on-time for 10 days of the month. Since the beginning of the year, Caribbean Airlines maintained an 84% on-time performance. The United States Bureau of Transportation Statistics indicates that airlines operating in the US had an average on-time performance of 72% in the first three quarters of the year. “Our on-time performance is a clear indication of the operational success of Caribbean Airlines” says Executive Vice-President, Operations, Captain Ian Brunton. “Leaving on-time allows us to make best use of connections with other carriers, to increase customer satisfaction and to maximise revenue”.
‘On time’ is defined, in accordance with normal industry standards, as departure within 15 minutes of scheduled departure time.
Caribbean Airlines is also an industry leader in luggage performance ensuring passengers can be certain they will receive all their belongings on arrival at their destination. Since January the airline has received less than 1 claim per thousand passengers carried. Official data provided by governments show that North American performance averaged 8 claims and European 16 claims per thousand passengers.
The September performance is followed by a strong operational performance in the first days of October where Caribbean Airlines is achieving above 95% on-time performance. The airline is consistently working on improving its performance and appreciates the efforts made by its customers to arrive at check-in and at departure gates on-time. Passengers using web check-in are also processed more rapidly ensuring a quicker access to their gates and ultimately helping the airline’s on-time performance. - Port of Spain, September 19, 2007

The way we have re-organized the reward rate with the possibility of redeeming miles on a one way basis is unique in the industry and provides flexibility and value to our frequent flyer members” says Francois Pariseau, Director Marketing at Caribbean Airlines.
Caribbean Miles is Caribbean Airlines’ frequent flyer program, designed specifically for persons traveling to, from and within the Caribbean. The new program was launched January 1st and has honored commitments made by Bwee Miles as well as accepted the transfer of all Bwwe miles to its account in order to offer past members the ability to reap the benefits of reward travel on the new airline. - Port of Spain, April 2, 2007
Caribbean Airlines Selects Sabre Airline Solutions’ Ramco MRO System to Achieve Efficient Maintenance, Engineering OperationsCaribbean Airlines has signed an agreement with Sabre Airline Solutions, to provide a new system for its maintenance, repair and overhaul applications and to have that system delivered via Sabre eMergo Web access.
Caribbean Airlines chose the Ramco MRO System, because of “its time to market, product superiority, hosting and the fact that Sabre Airline Solutions will be a single vendor for all our operations and MRO solutions,” said Captain Ian Brunton, executive vice president of operations for Caribbean Airlines.
The Ramco system will help Caribbean Airlines reduce operation and overhead costs while optimizing inventory, increasing operational performance and aircraft availability, and improving overall business process efficiency. It gives the airline a maintenance, repair and overhaul application that is all-encompassing and easy to use. By having the system delivered over the Internet and remotely accessed through the eMergo Web access environment, Caribbean will be able to obtain these benefits more rapidly than with a local installation.
“Our alliance with Ramco is growing stronger all the time,” said Sabre Airline Solutions product vice president Mike Douglass. “We are now engaged with them on every kind of delivery model possible: local access, local install and, now with Caribbean, ASP. It proves that we are in the right space at the right time with the right partner.
“Caribbean Airlines is the first Maxi-Merlin system customer to migrate to the Ramco system,” Douglass added. “We have around 40 current Maxi-Merlin system users today, and they can now use Caribbean’s experience with the new system to evaluate their future needs.”
Douglass also said Sabre Airline Solutions “will be providing an integrated operations solution with the Sabre Flite Control Suite for Caribbean and that supports our “market, sell, serve, operate” strategy.”
“The officials at Caribbean, an icon in the southern Caribbean, possess excellent airline knowledge — they really know their business,” said Jim Fitzgerald, global executive vice president of Ramco MRO. “In order for us to earn their trust, we had to be able to incorporate their intelligence into our solution.”
