CARIBBEAN AIRLINES, LIAT & CDB COLLABORATE ON JEAN S. HOLDER BOOK LAUNCH
On 14 July, Caribbean Airlines along with LIAT and the Caribbean Development Bank of Barbados hosted the launch of the book "Don't Burn Our Bridges—The Case for Owning Airlines" written by Jean S. Holder. "Don't Burn Our Bridges" is the first of a trilogy dealing with air transportation, tourism and the socio-political issues documenting the history of Caribbean airlines and attempts to demystify the complexities of such concepts as deregulation, yield management and a la carte pricing.
Held at the Caribbean Development Bank (CBD) in Barbados, proved to be an auspicious occasion, drawing a crowd of dignitaries including Former Prime Minister of Barbados, the Right Honourable Owen Arthur, Former Minister of Tourism, Noel Lynch, U.S. Chargé d'Affaires to Barbados, Brent Hardt, British High Commissioner, Paul Brummell and Caribbean Airlines Chief Executive Officer Captain Ian Brunton.
In his address to the audience Capt. Ian Brunton noted that "Don't Burn our Bridges: The Case for Owning Airlines" was a scholarly work on modern Caribbean aviation, to be used by student and practitioner alike since it carried a wealth of data and also contains deep analysis of the fundamental strategies that drive the airline business. Capt. Brunton also stated that the book provides a unique opportunity to truly understand the intricacies of regional aviation in the global context; from a perspective of absolute clarity and astuteness.
The Caribbean Airlines family congratulates Mr. Holder on his remarkable achievement and wish him the very best. -

1. Why is Caribbean Airlines changing their check-in system?
In the efforts to streamline the airline’s operations this was one of the areas that was targeted for change. Together with the changes to our reservations system, SITA will enable us to offer a more convenient and efficient travel experience whilst saving on operating costs. After careful consideration and a thorough cost benefit analysis, the end result will be an improved customer check-in process.
2. Will it take longer to check-in?
It really is not supposed to take longer to check-in, but please bear with us as our staff gets accustomed to the new software and procedures.
3. What about my Caribbean Miles? Will this new system allow for MILES to be credited to my account?
Absolutely! Your miles will be credited just as it was with the previous system. Our website will continue to let you be able to view your miles and credits will be made as with the previous system.
4. What happened to my reserved seat? This seems to have disappeared!
In the transition to the new reservations system reserved seats may not be reflected in the new system. Do not worry! This is temporary and your seating will be shown once the transition is formally complete.
5. If I pre-selected a seat for a return journey will it still be there after Caribbean Airlines has installed its new system?
Customers can be assured that all of their information with regards to all our products and services like bookings, seat assignments, Caribbean Miles and Club Caribbean information will be retained on our new system.
6. What about connecting flights? Will these be affected in any way?
All information regarding connections will be protected in the new system.
7. I would like to check-in using the website. Will the system allow me to do this?
This function will not be available for use until 25 March 2010. We know that this is an inconvenience for our customers and we really appreciate your patience at this time as we switch our systems. Caribbean Airlines Sponsor Febeau Government Primary School
On Wednesday 27 January, Caribbean Airlines had the wonderful opportunity to meet 14 bright musical minds from the Standard Five class of Febeau Government Primary School at its head office at Iere House inn Piarco. The airline sponsored the purchase of a new tenor pan for the school’s steel orchestra, Febeau Pan Giants which placed 4th in Junior Panorama last year. Caribbean Airlines Employees Give to Haiti
The employees of Caribbean Airlines joined the growing charitable efforts in Trinidad and Tobago to raise money for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti which tragically struck the country on 12 January 2010. CAL employees heeded the call and gathered in solidarity for their Caribbean neighbors by donating 13,750 dollars to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Caribbean Regional Representation Office in just under a week. Capacity Building officer of the organisation Marylee Ellis explained that the response from the CAL employees proved that every contribution, no matter how small, was important. On the 13 January 2010, Caribbean Airlines Corporate Communications department issued an internal call to employees to donate whatever cash they could to the cause. Laura Asbjornsen Head of Corporate Communications explained that the airline was in close contact with the IFRC at the end of 2009 to discuss various employee charity programmes with the organisation. “Unfortunately it took a tragedy in our backyard to grow the Caribbean Airlines’ relationship with an organisation like the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. We want to work consistently with the Caribbean Regional Representation office and this is just one of the ways that we can contribute”.
Caribbean Airlines employees also took the time to pray for those still suffering in the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti. Yesterday, the company held an inter-faith service at its head office on Golden Grove Road in Piarco. Representatives from the Christian, Muslim and Hindu faiths were present, as staff offered their prayers for those affected by the natural disaster.
The airline advises that those wishing to donate can do so online via the web http://donate.ifrc.org. The website also contains real time updates and stories from volunteers on the ground in Haiti. Visit www.ifrc.org for more details.
